Telecommunications in the Northern Mariana Islands
make use of the latest in digital fiberoptics and satellites
that are connected to worldwide networks. Full use of
these technologies allows the islands to have some of
the most advanced telecommunications in the world today.
A full range of services are available, including internet,
cellular, integrated voice & data systems, international
private lines, pay phones, prepaid phone cards, voicemail,
automatic call distribution systems (ACD), and call
accounting systems. All of the islands are part of the
North American dialing plan and calls to U.S. destinations
are rate integrated for efficient, inexpensive communications
to the mainland.
The islands enjoy the latest news, weather and music on
three FM stations and two AM stations. The Voice of America,
with headquarters on Tinian, carries its signal throughout
the Pacific and into neighboring Asian countries. Cable
television provides dozens of channels with local, national
and international programming. Live CNN and other
international news is provided via satellite.
